We have all often felt disappointment, regret, heartache or devastation, how do we keep going? How do we not fall to our circumstances? The answer sounds easy...God. However we all know that is not always as easy as it sounds.
God is our fortress, our strenght and counselor. Right about now you are probably thinking, counselor what does that have to do with all these stressors in my life. In 1 Kings and 2 Chronicles we see Jehoshaphat tell the King of Israel to seek counsel from the Lord before heading to war. This should be our first responds to anything we do, seek counsel. If we are dealing with grief or depression we would go see a therapist (not saying you shouldn't if the services are in fact needed). Therefore why would you not seek counsel from the one who already knows how it will end.
We seek counsel through 2 main avenues
1) Prayer
We should be in prayer daily and continuously. The Lord knows what will come of every situation and he will guide us through everything that happens in our life through the people who we are surrounded by.
2) Counsel/Mentor
Often when we are struggling God will place someone in our lives to help us through the situation. This can be for many reasons, you are struggling in your job, marriage, parenting abilities, ect. When we decide to seek out a mentor we want to look for someone who is where we want to be. If you are struggling in your marriage seek someone who has a solid relationship with their spouse with a God-centered relationship. If you are tuggling with your job seek someone in a position that you would like to be in that can help guide you to that place.
Either way we should always keep things centered on our faith in God and ask for guidance from the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit was brought down upon the world to be our guidance and counselor. Pray and he will assist in all the matters that afflict you. God does not want us to give in to our depression, despair or any other stressor in our life. God wants to give us peace. Through prayer and faith in him we can have that peace.
